Public Works Department

The City of Carbondale Department of Public Works (DPW) is tasked with maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure within the City's 3.2 square miles. In addition, they are solely in charge of the City-owned 52 Miles of roads and streets. DPW is responsible for the bi-weekly collection of recycling, sanitary & storm sewer maintenance, snow removal, and road resurfacing & patching. Since 2004, the Department has been under the direction of Frank Galko & Dave Hachan.

Frank Galko, DPW Lead Foreman / Community Development Project Manager Frank Galko (more commonly knows as 'SHANKY') has over 20 years experience in the City's Department of Public Works. In 2004, Mr. Galko became the Lead Foreman of the Department. In addition, Frank has directed the DPW workforce while undertaking several Community Development (CDBG-funded) Projects. Since that time, DPW expanded its role to include a number of special infrastructure projects, including new sanity and storm sewers, construction of the Belmont Street Skate Park, and new sidewalk installation in public parks. Finally, the Department worked diligently with Mayor Taylor to structure an equipment upgrade program allowing the Department to undertake complete reconstruction of roadways and the demolition of buildings.
